Hi, I'm Nathan.
I've been working in the disability sector for the last 6 years. Throughout this time, I've had experience on the ground providing learning support, and direct disability support work in individual and group settings. Since then, I've been working as a support coordinator for almost 5 years, and had experience running a support coordination business for the last 3 years. All this is to say that I have had first hand experience at each layer of service provision. I understand how it all fits together; from the perspective of the person receiving the support, those delivering the support, and those making the decisions behind the scenes.
I like to take a holistic approach. This is not just words, this is practice. I like to see the whole person; not the disability, not the funding, not the NDIS profile. The person trying to live their best life, just like we all are. I believe we're in this together, and what makes life work are people coming together in systems and community, all playing their part and lifting each other up.
I like coordination to more than admin support. Understanding supports means gaining agency over your goals - the who, when, where, and how of the networks needed to reach these milestones. If you come away feeling you don't really need me anymore, that's great. If we're in for the long-haul, fantastic. The journey is different for everyone.
In essence, I like to recognise the social factors at play that impact everyone differently. I like to apply a systems approach, recognise people's strengths and base supports on building on competency rather than focusing on deficits. Everyone is different, and you know what works best for you. I come in as a sounding board, an extra set of hands, and we take it from there. I take a psychosocial approach to all my work as I come from a behavioural science background, and have had my fair share of mental health challenges along with way. But, we're all still here aren't we?
